Swiftlet Nest Extract description

Swiftlet nest extract is an ingredient of Asian origin made from the solidified saliva of swiftlet birds, namely _Aerodramus fuciphagus_, _Collocalia esculenta_, _Collocalia vestira_ or _Collocalia inexpectra_ varieties. This solidified saliva is used to create the birds’ nest and is rich in bioactive compounds. It might be unusual for Western audiences, but it well known in Asian cultures. Swiftlet nest extract can help even skin tone, sooth, promote hydration, defend skin from environmental damage due to its antioxidant properties and help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Studies reveal that swiftlet nest extract contains glycoproteins, amino acids, polysaccharides and growth factors, all which can help support skin health. More research has been conducted on the ingestion of this interesting extract than on the application of it to skin. Studies reveal that ingestion of swiftlet nest extract can help regenerate skin and fight visible signs of aging due to its impact on growth factors within skin. Before ingestion or topical application, swiftlet nest extract is sterilized. As a raw material, it can present in both powder and liquid forms. Suppliers of this ingredient recommend using it in concentrations between 1.0% and 3.0%. In Asian countries it is also referred to as edible bird’s nest and is ingested via supplement, herbal medicine recipes or prepared foods, such as bird’s nest soup.
