Acacia Seyal Gum Extract description

_Acacia seyal_ gum extract is one of two types of gums extracted from trees in the genus _Acacia_, the other being _Acacia senegal_. Both are also referred to as gum arabic, and are polysaccharides, types of complex carbohydrates consisting of sugars that are bound together. As is the case with _Acacia senegal_, _Acacia seyal_ gum has several applications in cosmetics, mainly as a thickener and texture enhancer. Research however points to even greater benefits than just improving a product’s sensorial experience; studies demonstrate this gum extract also has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits as well. In addition to its use in cosmetics, _Acacia seyal_ gum extract is also a food additive, where it can be used in amounts up to 20% in alcoholic beverages. Typical use levels of _Acacia seyal_ gum extract in cosmetics are 5–10%.
